2010 record high for photovoltaic installations

According to the annual PV market report, Marketbuzz 2011, 2010 was a record high for solar photovoltaic installations, with a growth of 139% over 2009, and 18.2 gigawatts installed.

In 2010, the PV industry generated USD $82 billion in revenue’s, an increase of 105% from USD $40 billion in 2009.

More than USD $10 billion in equity and debt was successfully raised by companies throughout the PV supply chain during 2010.

The top 5 countries in 2010 was Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, Japan and the United States, together representing more than 80% of the global demand. European countries represented 81% or 14.7 GW of the world demand in 2010 with Germany, Italy and the Czech Republic in top three. Those three countries collectively totaled 12.9 GW, leaving only 1.8 GW to the rest of Europe. The US and Japanese markets grew by 96% and 101% respectively.
